GTI ranks Georgia among zero-terrorism countries

The Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), an independent, non-partisan, non-profit think tank, published the 2024 Global Terrorism Index (GTI) where Georgia is among zero-terrorism countries and ranks the last 89th place among 50 countries.

The report mentions that the situation of Georgia in terms of threats of global terrorism has improved by 2,629 points in 2013-2023. According to the 2012 report, Georgia was ranked 41st.

The authors of the report say that deaths from terrorism rose to 8,352 in 2023, a 22 per cent increase from the prior year. The number of terrorist attacks decreased to 3,350 in 2023, a reduction of 23 per cent from the 4,321 attacks in 2022.

Israel had the largest increase in terrorism deaths, increasing from 24 to 1,210 deaths. The attack in Israel by Hamas was the single largest terrorist attack since the inception of the GTI, the biggest since 9/11 and one of the largest terrorist attacks in history.

Islamic State (IS) and its affiliates remained the world’s deadliest terrorist group in 2023, despite deaths attributed to the group and its affiliates declining by 17 per cent from 1,963 to 1,636 deaths.
