A three-day training seminar was held in the city of Mosul (Iraq) to train Yazidi youth to monitor the upcoming elections in the country. The seminar was attended by dozens of trainees from various provinces, including representatives of the Yazidi population.

The project is called the Network of Friends of Democracy in Nineveh and is implemented by the Tahrir Development Association with the financial support of the German Konrad Foundation. The aim of the project is to provide participants with an opportunity to learn about the foundations of democracy and its consolidation in conflict-affected provinces, as well as how to monitor elections before, during and after elections with the help of local observers trained within the framework of the project. The seminars were attended by the representative of the Nineveh Election Commission Sufyan Al-Mashhadani, who noted that those who have biometric electoral cards will participate in the electoral process. Al-Mashhadani added that the number of registered and received it in Nineveh province is approximately 1 million 700 thousand people. Monitoring inside polling stations will also be carried out by representatives of the Yazidi minority. Surveillance cameras will be installed to monitor the electoral process. The Independent High Electoral Commission announced that the number of candidates for provincial councils across Iraq has reached 5,915 candidates. 357 candidates were eliminated, bringing the number of female candidates to 1,657 candidates. The trainees noted the importance of such projects in promoting democracy among Iraqi youth, highly appreciating the role of sponsors and organizers of this project, which bears the name "Nineveh Friends of Democracy". The participants of this project will be able to virtually observe the electoral process, which will take place in mid-December and will be the first elections to provincial councils. Unfortunately, representatives of the Yazidi population of Nineveh province will receive 1 or 2 seats according to quotas, which the local Yazidi parties do not agree with.
