British consulting firm in the field of higher education Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has published a ranking of world universities — QS World University Rankings 2024. As indicated on the company's website, it includes 104 countries and 1,500 universities.

The annual assessment, which has been conducted for the 20th year, is based on the analysis of 17.5 million scientific papers and expert opinions of more than 240 thousand teachers and employers from around the world.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge has taken the first place in the ranking for the 12th year in a row, Cambridge University took the second place, Oxford University took the third.

The universities of Georgia are among the top 1,500 universities. These are the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) and the Technical University of Georgia (GTU).

According to the data published on the QS website, TSU's rating has been deteriorating for the second year. In the latest ranking, the university now occupies 801-850 place, while in 2023 it occupied 601-650 position, and in 2022 – 571-580 place.

GTU also lost its position in the QS ranking of universities in developing countries of Europe and Central Asia [Emerging Europe & Central Asia]. This rating includes 400 universities in the region. GTU's position in this ranking by year looks like this: 2019 – 109th place; 2020 – 86th place; 2021 – 108th place and 2022 – 118th place.

QS World University Rankings is one of the most reliable and prestigious international ranking lists, which can be divided by region and filtered by country.

The overall score of the prestigious rating is determined on the basis of nine important indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, the ratio of teachers and students, the number of citations per teacher, the ratio of foreign teachers, the ratio of foreign students, as well as, for the first time this year, an international research network, employment results and sustainable development.
