Cultural Center of the Caucasus Yazidis has always supported the desire of Yazidi youth to learn, today we are happy to hear that another Yazidi girl has received her high school diploma in Canada.

Chinar Khalaf's story begins with a terrible and harrowing childhood, and luckily leads her to a beautiful graduation, a blue robe and a high school diploma from Canada. After realizing her dream and her late father's dream, the girl is left with a dark past during the Yazidi genocide.

In 2014, ISIS terrorists attacked the village where Chinar's family lived; the terrorists killed her father, grandfather, and uncle. The girl, along with the rest of her family, was captured and taken to Syria, where they stayed for two years. The girl's two brothers and sister were gone after a couple of months in captivity. They, like the men in the family, were not spared, even though they were very young.

After two agonizing years in captivity, Chinar and her mother managed to escape to a refugee camp, and in January 2018 they moved to Canada, where the girl immediately decides to resume her schooling. With sad eyes, she recalls how her father always imagined seeing her graduate one day.

For 5 years, Chinar has been trying hard to fulfill her father's dream of becoming a graduate and getting a decent education. But the girl does not intend to stop there. She plans to continue her education despite all the hardships she has endured without losing hope for a bright future.
