"We must work more and more closely to grant Georgia EU candidate status and ensure that the people of Georgia do not miss out on a historic opportunity", said European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.
In her opening remarks, Roberta Metsola thanked Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, who is in the European Parliament.
"We need the future of the European Union for the citizens of Georgia. We are at your side, ready to support you on your journey towards becoming an integral part of the European Union. We must work more diligently and more closely for Georgia to get the EU candidate status, so that Georgian people do not miss the historic opportunity. For this we need concrete steps to reach different milestones - support for democracy, media freedom, judicial reform and respect for the personal dignity of detained persons. We are concerned about Mikheil Saakashvili", stated Roberta Metsola.
According to her, the European Union is ready to help Georgia on its European path by providing all necessary support on this difficult path.
"Georgia has to go through this path and it is up to Georgia to choose its future. Madam President, I appreciate the tough position you are taking on your country. We must work together to reduce the polarization in the Georgian society and secure the future of our society", said Roberta Metsola.
