The Al-Bayan Research Center has released a new book entitled "The Ongoing Genocide: Dynamics, Dimensions and Factors of Division in the Yazidi Society," written by Dr. Saad Salloum.

The release came on the ninth anniversary of the Yazidi genocide at the hands of ISIS in Nineveh province.

The introduction to the book says:

"The genocide of 2014 is still alive for the Yazidi community, especially given the continuation of the political struggle for the management of the native Yazidi lands in Sinjar, the high rates of migration and the increasing dispersion of the Yazidi society. However, this study will not focus on the genocide committed by ISIS, nor will it focus on the tragedies of the victims that have become widely known. The thesis of continuity and regularities as puppets on the chessboard of history, driven by invisible external forces.

Is the separation of the Yazidi community exceptional?

Is the division the result of the absence of a state or does it have distant roots?

Is it really an expression of the fragmentation and dispersion of society and a manifestation of the continuity of genocide by other means?

The author also connects the discussion of the continuity of the genocide in the Yazidi context. In parallel, the slogan "never again" became more active, regardless of whether the state was an active participant in atrocities, as in famous historical examples of the twentieth century, or as a result of its absence, as happened in the destruction of Sinjar and the occupation of a significant part of the country by ISIS terrorists at the beginning of the twenty-first century.

Finally, through the research, the author tries to present a common space of thinking that includes more than one message to the Iraqi society about the need to resolve internal gaps as a starting point for answering the question of national identity, imagining a comprehensive identity. Thus, the study is part of the author's comprehensive project to analyze the differences in various Iraqi societies as a starting point for achieving the slogan "unity in diversity" and establishing a model of "citizenship that embraces cultural diversity".
