Prime Minister of Iraq receives a delegation from the Sinjar region and stresses the need to protect the rights of the Yazidi minority
Prime Minister, Mr. Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, received a delegation from the Sinjar region, which included representatives of the Yazidi minority.
During the meeting, the delegation, on behalf of Yazidi citizens of Sinjar district, thanked Mr. Sudani for the decision taken last month by the Iraqi Council of Ministers to officially own their homes and lands in 11 Yazidi residential areas and document their ownership. The discriminatory policy of the previous regime did not allow Yazidi minority to own private property houses and agricultural land since 1975.
The Prime Minister confirmed that the Government has included in its ministerial program the care and protection of the rights of all components, including the Iraqi Yazidi component, which was subjected to the most heinous crime against humanity committed against Yazidi people by the terrorist gangs of ISIS in 2014.
Mr. Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani pointed out that Iraq is characterized by a diversity of religions and components, and this diversity gives it strength, increases its prosperity and strengthens its social cohesion. He stressed that the rights of national minorities are protected by the Constitution, and that the Government is working to consolidate them in work programs and service projects that serve national minorities on the basis of citizenship and justice.
