Georgia and Azerbaijan have agreed to deepen economic cooperation

Georgia and Azerbaijan signed a number of documents following the meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation.

In particular, among the signed documents are the "Memorandum of Understanding between the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Agency for the Development of Small and Medium-sized Businesses of the Republic of Azerbaijan", as well as the "Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan".

"There is complete mutual understanding and complete friendship between our peoples and countries. These relations are deepening, and I would also like to note that thanks to our exemplary partnership, we will contribute to a more stable South Caucasus", Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said after the signing ceremony.

He noted that the goal of Georgia and Azerbaijan is to ensure stability in the region, which will become the basis for greater economic development and greater prosperity of the peoples.

In turn, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov noted the prospects for the development of further relations between the countries.

"Relations between our countries have reached the level of strategic partnership today. Our relations are developing in all spheres, be it politics, economy, energy, transport, culture, education, military and other spheres. We support each other in the development of these areas. I believe that the documents signed with your participation today will further accelerate this process", Asadov said.

At the same time, he noted the high potential for further development of trade relations between the countries and the prospect of further cooperation.

Georgia and Azerbaijan established diplomatic relations on November 18, 1992. The countries actively cooperate in the fields of trade, transport, energy, production and logistics.

Azerbaijan is one of the five main trading partners of Georgia. The trade turnover between the countries in January-September 2022 increased by 21.3% compared to the same period in 2021 and amounted to $959.6 million.
