The vaccination of citizens against seasonal flu will begin in Georgia next week, head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health Amiran Gamkrelidze said.
Usually, the flu virus in Georgia appears in November and reaches a peak in December-January. The popularization of the flu vaccine among the population of Georgia began in 2014-2015. In 2018, the country purchased 40 thousand vaccines, but it was not possible to master many the drug. But already in 2019, when the country purchased 100 thousand doses of vaccines, only a small part remained unused.
According to him, the flu vaccination will be carried out in parallel with the coronavirus vaccination.
There are already 43 thousand doses of the first batch of the four-component flu vaccine in the country. At the first stage, medical staff and pregnant women will be vaccinated.
"Next week, the vaccination of medical staff, pregnant women and people on dialysis will begin. Then, in October, when the second and third batches are imported into the country, the risk groups will increase even more. Patients with chronic diseases, children will be added...", Amiran Gamkrelidze said.
Earlier, the epidemiologist said that the beginning of the fifth wave of coronavirus in Georgia directly depends on the season of the spread of respiratory viruses , whether the flu will be less or more active this year.
