The amnesty will write off fines of 76 million lari from the population for violating the established coronavirus restrictions.
The Georgian Parliament at the first session of the autumn session on Tuesday will vote in the third reading for a package of bills that provides for an amnesty of fines for violating covid restrictions.
As part of the amnesty, more than 245 thousand citizens and 344 legal entities will be released from both administrative and criminal liability. We are talking about unpaid fines for violating the rules of isolation, quarantine and wearing masks of about 76 million lari.
This initiative is also supported by representatives of the parliamentary opposition.
"We fully agree with the amnesty. These fines were unfair and should not have been paid by the population, "said Alexander Rakviashvili, one of the leaders of the Girchi party.
The package of bills is also supported by the ruling party. However, they believe that the amnesty should not be perceived as encouraging violations of the covid-restriction in the future.
"Considering the social situation (of the population), the prime minister considered it necessary to write off the fines issued from citizens, and thereby ease their financial situation. Naturally, we will adopt this law in the third reading, " said Guram Macharashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority.
In connection with the pandemic, fines have been introduced in Georgia for violating the established restrictions.
The amount of the fine for violating the restriction on movement at night was two thousand lari (586.5 dollars) from an individual and 10 thousand lari (2.9 thousand dollars) - from the legal department. For violation of the rules of wearing masks, the fine is 20 lari (about $ 6), and for repeated appearance in public places without masks, the amount is doubled.
