The protest actions in Tbilisi due to the visit of TV presenter Vladimir Pozner will not affect the desire of Russians to go or not to go to Georgia, as there is no tourist flow now, according to the press secretary of the Russian Union of Travel Industry Irina Turina.

Pozner flew to Tbilisi on Wednesday with friends to celebrate his 87th birthday. However, he was forced to leave Georgia due to the actions of members of the public that took place all night in the Georgian capital. The action was held in connection with the offensive statements made by Pozner in his interviews against Abkhazians and Georgians, as well as his non-recognition of the territorial integrity of Georgia.

"Now there is no significant tourist flow to Georgia. Direct flights were interrupted even before the pandemic, in the summer of 2019, due to protests by the Georgian opposition against the arrival of a delegation of Russian deputies. At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Tourism Agency announced the undesirability of selling organized tours to the country. After that, the tourist flow fell sharply. Now, even though since March 1, the destination is open, and Russians can go in the presence of a PCR test, as tours with flights through third countries are very expensive. If some Russians go there individually, they are only a few, " Turina said.

According to her, if ever direct flights are restored, and the Foreign Ministry's recommendation on the undesirability of travel is canceled, by then the incident with Posner will be forgotten and is unlikely to prevent someone from going to Georgia.
