At a meeting of the joint committees of the Georgian Parliament, the candidate for defense Minister Irakli Garibashvili presented the defense part of the new government program, which will further strengthen the country's defense system and security.
Irakli Garibashvili spoke about important plans for the next year.
"In 2021, we will purchase operational, tactical unmanned reconnaissance and combat drones. We will equip maneuverable and artillery units with modern reconnaissance aircraft, we will develop electronic and reconnaissance surveillance facilities, " the candidate for the post of defense Minister said.
In his speech, Irakli Garibashvili paid special attention to the implemented and planned measures for the modernization of air defense systems and aircraft fleet, which is part of a long-term ten-year plan for the restoration of the defense Forces.
According to him, next year the country's air defense capabilities will be further developed.
"In 2018, the first stage of the French project was completed, and we received French-made air surveillance radars, a mobile command post and Mistral-3 anti-aircraft missile systems. The second phase of this French contract will be successfully completed in 2021. As you know, we have signed an agreement with our Israeli partners that will allow us to upgrade and modernize the Raphael anti — aircraft system, "said Irakli Garibashvili.
According to him, next year it is planned to purchase modern man-portable air defense systems.
