US transfers equipment to Georgia to respond to chemical and nuclear threats

The US has handed over new equipment to Georgian rescuers responsible for responding to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats (CBRN). This is reported by the emergency management Service of the Ministry of internal Affairs of Georgia.

From the US military threat reduction Agency (DTRA), the radiation threat response Agency received three Ford pickup trucks, as well as three towed trailers with special equipment. One SUV will be sent to a special unit set up in the port city of Poti in Western Georgia.

The official ceremony of the transfer of equipment was held today at the base of the rapid response service for emergency management. Demonstration exercises to respond to CBRN incidents were also held there.

The event was attended by Deputy us Ambassador to Georgia Catherine Schultz, US military attaché to Georgia Stephanie Beagle, head of the Georgian office of DTRA Leron Babe, as well as the leadership of the Georgian emergency management Service.
