Georgia hosts European youth Olympiad in computer science

The European youth Olympiad in Informatics is a large-scale international event aimed at developing information technologies in the member States of the Council of Europe.

The fourth European youth Olympiad in Informatics is held online on September 2-6 with the participation of a record number of 30 countries, under the leadership of the Ministry of education, science, culture and sports of Georgia, according to the Agency's website.

The Olympiad opened with a solemn ceremony in electronic format, during which a presentation of an image video about Georgia took place. After greeting the Minister of education, science, culture and sports of Georgia Mikhail Chkhenkeli, Director General of the Georgian national science Foundation named after Shota Rustaveli Jaba Samushia and the President of the Olympiad George Mandarii, the participating countries of the Olympiad were presented.

Technical and infrastructure support for the Olympiad is provided by the international black sea University and the Georgian Association of scientific and educational computer networks "Grena".

In his speech, the Minister wished success to the participants of the Olympiad and noted that according to the decision of the International Committee, the 2021 Olympics, if the epidemic in the world improves, will be organized again by Georgia.

"I am very pleased that Georgia has provided high-level hosting of the European youth Olympiad in Informatics 2020 in an online format. We have proved that today, against the background of global challenges, it is possible to hold a large-scale international event online based on the use of modern technologies and coordinated cooperation,"- Chkhenkeli said.

This year, in addition to the main one, Georgia presented an additional team that participates in the Olympiad out of competition. The Georgian national teams at the youth Olympiad in Informatics were selected based on the results of the national Olympiad in Informatics and the results of the additional qualifying round, considering the age limit.

The winning teams with gold, silver and bronze medals will be determined based on the results of the qualifying rounds. The closing ceremony of the Olympiad will be held online on September 6.

The European youth Olympiad in Informatics is an important international event aimed at developing information technologies in the member States of the Council of Europe. The first European youth Olympiad in computer science (EJOI) was held in Bulgaria in 2017.
