The Central election Commission (CEC) of Georgia is beginning to implement all the procedures necessary for organizing the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 31. This was stated at an information briefing by CEC Vice-speaker Anna Mikeladze.

As Mikeladze noted, the CEC creates all conditions for citizens to exercise their civil rights in a free and safe environment on the day of voting.

According to her, the CEC meeting held today approved the schedule of events for the elections to the Parliament of Georgia, which reflects in detail all the actions related to the elections and the corresponding deadlines.

The electoral administration, in particular the CEC and 73 district commissions will organize elections to the Parliament of Georgia at 3,657 polling stations. By the resolution adopted at today's meeting, 2 polling stations in Bagram and Mazar-I-Sharif will be opened for Georgian citizens serving in the peacekeeping battalions of the Georgian armed forces stationed in Afghanistan.

According to Anna Mikeladze, by this time 59 political parties had registered to participate in the elections. However, certain parties may apply to the CEC Chairman no later than September 4 in order to participate in the elections. The CEC also determined the minimum number of supporters required to represent candidates for majority deputies by initiative groups.

As the CEC spokeswoman stated, all the legal regulations related to the appointment of elections will come into force on September 1. In particular, the rules for conducting an election campaign (campaigning), as well as rules related to the prohibition of using budget funds, official or official position, have started to apply today.
