The Yazidi community is considered a fleeing community from conflicts, wars and disputes, which had clear effects on society. The suffering of displacement increased the negative effects of the genocide and also left its mark on the displaced community. What are these effects and their impact?

Professor, Dr. Saeed Khudaida, told Ezidi 24 that “displacement alone affects members of a displaced community in many aspects, including social, economic, and educational aspects. For a displaced person to lose everything he owns causes difficulty in belonging to the community that he was displaced to.”

He added, “And among other influences, is the increase in unemployment in society and also the occurrence of demographic change, especially the Shingal region, which has had a conflict since the beginning, and it is possible that the sides of this displacement can take advantage of demographic change.”

He continued, “Also, from an educational aspect, there is a significant impact on society and can cause a kind of backwardness. In many times, Yazidis are subjected to genocide and circumstances similar to the current circumstances, which is the reason that there are no people with higher degrees and comprehensive scientific knowledge.”

The civil activist, Ibrahim Al-Tamry, believes that “the prolongation of the displacement period has several effects, including the social disintegration of families and the increase in divorce in the displaced community.”

He adds, “One of the most important negative effects that can occur after this long period of displacement is to reduce the interconnection between our original land (Shingall) and us as IDPs, and if the situation returns to normal as well I think that a large percentage of the displaced will remain here and will not return to their land.”

Psychologically, Dr. Salem Shingali, “who specializes in the psychological and mental health” told Ezidi 24, “The prolonged period of displacement indicates the absence of stability, and this causes anxiety among IDPs, and they will think about their future and the future of their children. “

He continued, saying, “If the situation continues as it is, cases of depression and anxiety will increase, especially among children, and they may have behavioral disorders and affect them, and this causes other problems such as irregular sleep and involuntary urination.”
