The Georgian authorities have decided to pay each person who remains without an official job 200 lari a month for six months

In order to receive unemployment benefits during coronavirus, employers must provide information about employees left without pay every month, according to the anti-crisis plan submitted by the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.

The Georgian authorities have decided to pay each person who remains without official work 200 lari per month for six months. According to preliminary data, up to 350,000 people across Georgia will fall into this category.

Who is entitled to benefits

Unemployment benefits will be available to those employed in official jobs who received a salary at least once in the first three months of 2020, and then remained without payments.

Information about such employees is provided to the tax service by the employer.

How to get compensation

By the 15th day of each month, the employer submits a list of employees who were paid at least once in the first quarter of 2020 and who were not paid in the previous month in electronic form on the website of the revenue Service.

At the same time, compensation will be issued from April.

The employer must provide the following information to the tax service: the employee's first and last name, personal number, contact details, and account number.

Based on the information provided by the employer until the 20th day of each month, the revenue Service will collect a single database and send it to the employment promotion Agency, which will transfer the benefit to the accounts specified in the database.

The budget allocated 460 million lari (approximately 145 million dollars) for benefits.
