The government of Georgia has approved a "State program to preserve food prices".

The program is intended to subsidize changes in the exchange rates of foreign currencies (us dollars and euros) for beneficiaries from March 15, 2020 to may 15, 2020 for the purpose of importing goods to Georgia.

For this purpose, 10 million lari will be allocated from the budget of the Ministry of agriculture.

According to the government decree, the goal of the program is to maintain prices for primary food products. There are nine types of such products — rice, pasta, buckwheat, sunflower oil, sugar, wheat, wheat flour, milk powder and beans.

The beneficiary will be able to use the subsidy only if, according to the official exchange rate set by the National Bank, the value of the us dollar exceeds 3 lari on the day of conversion, and in the case of euros — the cost of 1 Euro — 3.3 lari.

According to this decree, the beneficiary is obliged to comply with the terms of the program when selling imported products under the program and not to increase the price of these products.Otherwise, they will have to return the amount provided for by the subsidy and pay a fine.

A potential beneficiary of the program is a natural or legal person registered in Georgia who imports products to Georgia and with whom a subsidy agreement can be concluded under the program.
