The Constitutional Court of Georgia has accepted a lawsuit on the impeachment of the President

The Constitutional Court of Georgia has confirmed that it has accepted for consideration the impeachment motion of President Salome Zourabichvili, which was signed by 80 members of Parliament on the initiative of the ruling party.

The document is assigned the number 1797, it is registered by the Constitutional Court and submitted to the plenum of the court, which must give its response within a month. The countdown is from September 14.

If the Constitutional Court confirms that the President violated the Constitution due to European tours without the government's permission, the issue will be returned to Parliament for a vote. To approve impeachment, 100 votes of deputies are needed, the ruling party does not have enough of them, the opposition warns each other in advance about possible attempts to poach deputies.

To date, there are 140 active deputies in the Parliament of Georgia, with 150 mandates. The parliamentary majority includes 84 deputies, and the parliamentary opposition — 56.
