Georgian schools will teach Chinese, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili promised in Beijing.

To do this, a memorandum of understanding on joint Chinese language teaching will be signed. There is no information yet whether it will be a compulsory subject or an elective.

Earlier, the parties announced that relations between Tbilisi and Beijing are moving to the level of strategic cooperation.

Garibashvili said that cultural ties are no less important than economic ones. He took part in the unveiling of the bust of the great Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli at the Beijing University of Language and Culture.

"Dear friends, today's ceremony symbolizes the readiness of our peoples to accept each other's artistic and intellectual heritage, promote mutual understanding and respect and emphasize the power of literature and art… During our visit, we are pleased to sign an important document in the field of education – a memorandum of understanding on joint teaching of Chinese in primary and secondary schools in Georgia. I believe that this will greatly contribute to the achievement of our goal of deepening mutual understanding between our peoples", Irakli Garibashvili said.
