Today, on November 30, a NATO ministerial will be held in Riga. The meeting will also be attended by Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani.
"The United States once again confirms that it supports the accession of Georgia and Ukraine to NATO. This is stated in the information published by the US State Department on the eve of the meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Riga.
"The United States continues to support the decision taken at the NATO summit in Bucharest in 2008, according to which Georgia and Ukraine will become NATO members. The annual national program of these countries describes in detail their path to NATO. Georgia and Ukraine are already partners with strong capabilities, which increases their interoperability and training opportunities with NATO allies," the State Department said in a statement.
The information also says that NATO leaders remain committed to the Alliance's open-door policy.
"NATO's open-door policy opens the way to membership for any European country that shares our values, fulfills the necessary obligations and responsibilities. We will confirm our commitment to this policy at the June NATO summit," the State Department said in a statement posted on the official website of the department.
