MP Salome Samadashvili is officially leaving the largest opposition party, the United National Movement (UNM), in which she was a member since 2003.

In 2005-2007, Samadashvili was the Ambassador of Georgia to the Benelux countries and the Permanent Representative of Georgia to the European Union.

Samadashvili was a member of the Georgian Parliament in 2004 and 2016. In 2017, she served as Deputy chairman of the UNM parliamentary faction. Samadashvili entered the parliament of the tenth convocation in the top ten of the party lists of the "National Movement".

Samadashvili officially appealed to the party with a statement about leaving the party. In an interview with journalists, Samadashvili said that she had a long telephone conversation with the party chairman Nika Melia, who, according to her, understood her position. "We remained friends," Samadashvili said. She also confirmed that she will work in Parliament but is not going to join any party.

Samadashvili explained her withdrawal from the party by the UNM's refusal to sign an agreement on the way out of the political crisis proposed to Georgian politicians by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.

"I consider it a gross political mistake that the National Movement did not sign the Michel document. I think this made it impossible for me to cooperate with the party, especially since I was one of the participants in the negotiations during the discussion of the terms of the agreement," Samadashvili said.
