Georgia may demand $ 5 billion from Germany for the damage caused by the Nazis during the Second World War. The corresponding bill is being prepared by the"Labor Party of Georgia".

"We are preparing a bill according to which Germany will pay $ 5 billion in compensation to the descendants of those who died in the war, the families and descendants of war participants, those who were in concentration camps, or other subjects who were somehow affected," party leader Shalva Natelashvili said at a briefing.

The politician considers the demand for repatriation to be absolutely legitimate, since almost 10% of the Georgian population died on the fronts of the Second World War. According to him, the demographic losses of the country are comparable to those of the UK.

"Most recently, Greece demanded 289 billion from the government of this country. I'm not talking about Israel, France, Denmark, Norway, Kazakhstan, Belarus. Everyone received compensation, except us, " Natelashvili added.

The territory of Georgia was not occupied by Germany and was not bombed, but more than 700,000 Georgian soldiers fought on the fronts of the Second World War in the fight against fascism from 1941 to 1945, more than half of whom did not return home.

According to the latest data, 264 participants of the Second World War currently live in Georgia. Most of them are over 100 years old.
