Yazidi villages in Turkey – the culture and history of our people
In Turkey there are many number of villages in which the Yazidis live. There are processes of globalization in the world, and it is natural that this globalization could not affect the Yazidi villages in Turkey. Residents of these villages were affected by either urbanization or emigration. Some of them went to other countries in search of a better life. However, the significance of these villages in the Yazidi world and Yazidi culture is not diminished at all. These villages have preserved religious and cultural monuments, shrines and cemeteries of the Yazidi people. The following are the villages where Yazidis live or have lived in Turkey. Of course, the list is not complete and requires even more thorough ethnographic research. In some cases, it is possible that the transcription of the name of the villages may not correspond exactly to the sound in Kurmanji. We considered it important for our Yazidi community in the Caucasus to know about these villages and their existence. These villages should be visited as tourists, researchers and ethnographers. We hope that this list will be used by our scientists , historians, and religious leaders for further research and fixing historical monuments for our descendants.
