Yazidi community in Syria faces many challenges, including exorbitant taxes, rampant theft and lack of legal protection. These problems severely affect their ability to maintain their livelihoods and create a climate of fear and insecurity.

The Syrian Government's inaction in addressing those problems is a stark reminder of its failure to live up to its responsibility to protect its citizens and ensure their safety and well-being. The lack of intervention has exacerbated the already dire situation of Yazidi farmers, making them vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.

Yazidis who went into the fields to harvest olives were horrified by what was taken, more than half of the trees were stolen from the roots and some were deliberately cut down.

Lawyer Shiyar Ali told local media about taxes and looting of crops of Yazidi farmers, that no law protects Yazidi farmers, here they are just robbed. Taxes for farmers are as high as 60-70% in some places. Yazidi farmers are subjected to excessive taxes with rates as high as 70% of their income. This exorbitant financial burden undermines their ability to support their families and farming activities. Moreover, they face rampant crop theft as armed groups loot their fields and leave them with nothing.

And how will Yazidi refugees from Iraq and Kurdistan return to Syria during such lawlessness. The situation of Yazidi refugees and farmers is a critical issue that requires urgent attention. The Syrian government must fulfill its responsibilities and the international community must provide support and accountability. Only by working together can the plight of Yazidi farmers be improved and their community be enabled to rebuild their lives and livelihoods.
