Imports of gasoline for 11 months rose 0.8% compared to the same period last year, and diesel fell 0.4%.

Imports of petroleum products to Georgia from January to November 2019 amounted to 992.6 thousand tons, which is 0.2% more than in the same period of 2018, the Union of importers of petroleum products of Georgia (SING) said in a statement.

The largest supplier of fuel since the beginning of 2019 remains Russia - followed by Romania, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey and other countries.

Imports of gasoline from January to November 2019 amounted to 501.9 thousand tons, and diesel fuel-490.7 thousand tons.

Imports of gasoline since the beginning of the year rose 0.8% compared to the same period last year, and diesel fell 0.4%, the SING reported.

Diesel imports began to grow

Over the past three months, large volumes of diesel fuel have been carried out, which significantly improved this year's statistics on this product, the SING reported.

"For the first eight months of 2019, the import of diesel fuel amounted to 327.7 thousand tons, which is 11.6% less than in the same period of 2018. And from September to November, the total was imported by 40.6 thousand tons of diesel more than in the same period last year, " - reported in SING.

In General, the reason for the decline in fuel imports since the beginning of 2019 in SING say reduction in imported diesel fuel, mainly due to a decrease in the volume of re-export of this fuel from Georgia to Turkey. As well as a significant increase in imports of hybrid cars to Georgia.

According to SING, today in Georgia moves up to 80 thousand vehicles of hybrid type.

Another reason for the decrease in fuel imports is the increase in the inflow of unregistered diesel fuel from Azerbaijan, through Lagodekhi and the Red bridge, from the Iranian Islamic Republic, as well as through the Lars CCI, when wheat is imported by car to Georgia from the Russian Federation, the SING reported earlier.

"In reality, all the factors that determine the consumption of diesel fuel-fleet, infrastructure and agricultural work, transportation-are high, and, accordingly, this year should be recorded a high level of imports and consumption of diesel fuel," - reported in SING earlier.
