Georgian economy Ministry: Batumi port is not for sale - it has already been leased

The Ministry of economy and sustainable development of Georgia refutes the information spread by the Armenian media about the possible sale of the port of Batumi.

"The information spread by the Armenian media does not correspond to reality. Batumi port was leased for a period of 49 years with the right to manage the company "Batumi oil terminal", the Ministry said.

Armenian newspaper "Zhamanak" (Time) wrote about Armenia's interest to buy a seaport in Batumi, which the Georgian authorities put up for sale for $ 600 million.

"Various circles in Armenia are trying to organize fundraising for the purchase of the port, thereby ensuring the smooth transportation of goods in Armenia," the newspaper writes.

According to sources of the newspaper, the idea of creating an auction society, in which entrepreneurs from the Diaspora can also participate, is being discussed.
