Acting President of the National Bank of Georgia Natia Turnava met with the Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia Pavel Gerchinsky at the head office of the National Bank of Georgia.

According to the press service of the National Bank, the conversation touched upon economic trends in the country, issues of financial stability and projects implemented within the framework of cooperation with the European Union.

"Natia Turnava spoke in detail about the consistent steps taken by the National Bank to ensure compliance and monitoring of international sanctions. Financial institutions of Georgia operate in full compliance with the sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.

At the meeting, the importance of the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union in the direction of the development of the capital market in Georgia was noted", the press service of the National Bank said.

The National Bank notes that Natia Turnava and the EU Ambassador focused on the issue of Georgia's accession to the Single European Payment Area (SEPA) and on legislative changes that will make Georgian legislation even closer to EU legislation.

"Georgia is the first country in the region to declare its desire to join the European payment space. Membership in SEPA will bring us one step closer to the goal of becoming a member of the European family. This will significantly increase the credibility of Georgia's financial sector in the international arena and will facilitate trade relations with the European Economic Area. The projects implemented with the support of the European Union contribute to the improvement and strengthening of the supervisory instruments of the National Bank of Georgia, which, in turn, ensures the stability and transparency of the Georgian financial sector", Natia Turnava said.
