Georgia's economic growth trends are encouraging - Prime Minister
The Georgian government is motivated to continue working more intensively to maintain the pace of economic growth, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili told reporters.
The process of economic recovery in Georgia continues at a rapid pace. Real GDP growth in February 2022 was 14.6% compared to the same period in 2021, and the average for January-February was 16.3%.
"It is necessary to maintain this pace, the whole government is motivated to continue working with greater intensity, and I think this year we should be very successful," Garibashvili told reporters.
According to the Prime minister, double-digit economic growth is very encouraging.
"We need peace, stability, development, construction now, we have very reliable economic growth, we have double-digit economic growth in January-February, very strong economic growth, which, of course, is very encouraging for us," he said.
After the economy declined by 6.8% in 2020, a rapid recovery process has been underway since April 2021, which is reflected in almost all economic parameters. This is an increase in exports and imports, money transfers and an increase in the turnover of enterprises. According to preliminary data, Georgia's economic growth in 2021 amounted to 10.6%.
