Individual schools in Georgia will be able to resume full-time studies if up to 80% of their teachers and administrative staff are vaccinated against coronavirus. This was stated by the director of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze

"We call schools safe if 80% of teachers there, and not only teachers, but administrative staff, everyone who has contact with children, will be vaccinated. So, where 80% are vaccinated, perhaps [full-time study] will resume and vice versa. We should encourage the resumption of studies in such schools," Gamkrelidze said.

The educational process in Georgian schools will resume on September 15. As Gamkrelidze pointed out, the NCDC will not be able to recommend holding lessons in classrooms if the epidemiological situation in the country does not improve.

According to the Ministry of Education, up to 40% of school teachers have already been vaccinated against coronavirus, and the process continues.

By the beginning of the academic year in autumn 2020, 2,309 schools were registered in Georgia, including 2,086 public and 223 private. They employed 62,699 teachers.
