The Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection has expanded the "Rural Development Program", and now residents of Georgian villages will be able to receive new grants for equipment for alternative energy sources. This is reported by the press service of the department.
The new component is funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The 700 thousand dollars allocated at the first stage are intended for eight municipalities, but later the program will expand.
According to the conditions, residents of the districts can receive co – financing in the amount of 90% of the cost-up to 1 thousand lari for the installation and purchase of a simple heater and a solar-powered water heater.
In the case of purchasing a solar-powered vacuum water heater, the co-financing will amount to 80% of the cost – up to 3 thousand lari in total.
In addition, a grant of up to 8 thousand lari (70% of the cost) can be obtained for the thermal insulation of the house, and the state will issue a grant of up to 12 thousand lari (60% of the total amount) for the complete thermal insulation of the building.
Experts believe that in ten years Georgia may face a serious energy shortage. According to forecasts, electricity consumption in the country will reach 22 billion kilowatt-hours by 2030, while today it is at the level of 13 billion.
In order to reduce energy dependence on neighboring countries, the authorities are trying to maximize the use of local renewable resources, as well as alternative sources
