Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced the introduction of new covid-regulations on the eve of local government elections. He told reporters about this today, after receiving the first dose of coronavirus vaccination.

According to the prime minister, the issue will be discussed today on August 9 at a meeting of the interdepartmental coordinating council for combating COVID-19. At the same time, he stressed that there is no question of total blocking and measures that can negatively affect the economy. They will talk about the expediency of introducing such rules as wearing masks in an open space, limiting mass gatherings and mandatory passing of a PCR test in some cases.

"We are entering an active electoral phase. We must take into account that we will hold the elections according to a certain standard," Garibashvili said.
According to the prime minister, this is the only way to ensure "high-standard elections".

"I also took the initiative to propose to the CEC to vaccinate all members of the commission as soon as possible. We also want to offer this to all candidates and, in general, to everyone who is connected to these elections, in order to hold high-standard elections safe from coronavirus, " he said.
Local government elections will be held in Georgia on October 2. At them, residents will choose mayors and deputies of advisory bodies-sakrebulo in 63 cities and districts.
