By the end of June, Georgia will receive one million doses of the vaccine produced by the American company Novavax, the head of the Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Hospital Tengiz Tsertsvadze said on the Rustavi 2 TV channel. According to the chief infectious disease specialist, the agreement has already been reached and there should be no obstacles ahead.
"A preliminary agreement has been reached with Novavax on the supply of one million doses. It is scheduled for the end of June. According to preliminary data, there are no obstacles. This will practically solve the issue of immunization in the first year. Georgia was one of the first countries to establish a connection with Novavax, " Tsertsvadze said.
According to Tsertsvadze, the Novavax vaccine involves two vaccinations per person, as well as AstraZeneca and Pfizer. Earlier, Deputy Minister of Health of Georgia Tamar Gabunia said that 18 countries, including Georgia, have been identified on the COVAX platform, which will receive the Pfizer vaccine as an exception. According to her, an additional consultation on the Pfizer vaccine will take place at the end of the week, after which it will be possible to make assumptions about the delivery time.
As for the AstraZeneca vaccine, according to Gabunia, we are talking about 129,600 doses that Georgia should receive by the end of May.
