From Monday, February 15, Georgia will fully resume full-time education in public schools. According to the decision of the authorities, students of schools in Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Rustavi will be able to return to classes today. Because of the country's severe restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, most of them had to study remotely for almost a year. Two weeks ago, on February 1, full-time studies also resumed in Batumi, Poti, Zugdidi, Gori and Telavi.

Approximately 12% of schoolchildren in all cities of Georgia wished to stay on the "remote" - this is more than 35.7 thousand people. If their parents decide to transfer their child to full-time education, on Wednesdays they will be able to leave relevant applications on a special website of the Ministry of Education. For students from grades 5 to 12, wearing masks at school is mandatory. Children with special educational needs are exempt from this obligation.

The Ministry of Education states that every public school is provided with the necessary resources to comply with security measures and prevent the spread of the virus. Institutions were given disinfectant solutions, contactless thermometers, in the order given school toilets.

"Schools intensively inform parents about the recommendations developed by the ministry, the organization of the educational process and sanitary and hygienic standards in the school. Protecting the safety of students and at the same time ensuring their access to quality education are the main priorities of the Government of Georgia and the Ministry of Education," the ministry said in a statement.

In addition to the safety measures provided for in the protocols, teachers and administrative staff will be regularly tested for coronavirus in schools. Every two weeks, at least 20% of employees will be checked. In case of confirmation of Covid-19 in schoolchildren or teachers, educational institutions will apply point restrictions – either the entire school or a specific class will switch to distance learning.
