In 2021, Georgia will spend more than 5 billion lari on social programs and health care

In 2021, the Georgian authorities allocated 5 billion lari for health and social programs, most of which will go to help citizens. According to the new budget of the Ministry of Health, the Georgian authorities will spend 3.8 billion lari on social programs and assistance to citizens in 2021.

This amount also includes spending on the payment of pensions increased from January 1, social assistance to citizens, social benefits and assistance to the population affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Targeted assistance to citizens

On January 1, Georgia began issuing unemployment benefits to those who were left without official work after the introduction of new restrictions from November 28. They will receive 200 lari each for six months.

Socially unprotected large families, which scored from 65 thousand to 100 thousand points on the welfare scale, as well as families with children with disabilities and persons with pronounced disabilities, will receive 100 GEL for six months. In addition, the money will be used to subsidize utility costs in the winter months for a certain category of citizens.

Spending on health

The state plans to spend more than 1.5 billion lari on healthcare this year, while 400 million will be spent on the fight against coronavirus, the treatment of which is fully covered by the state.

The state has not forgotten about the universal health care program, which involves state insurance of citizens. Georgia will spend 800 million on this program in 2021.

As for the remaining health programs, 7 million lari are provided for the treatment of hepatitis C, 14.1 million lari for HIV and AIDS, 17.2 million lari for tuberculosis, and 12.2 million lari for drug addiction.

Another 30 million lari will be spent on repairs and equipment for medical institutions.
