Yazidi survivor Lamya Haji selected as Aurora forum goodwill ambassador

The first Aurora Forum will take place in Yerevan, Armenia on October 14-21, 2019. The Forum will bring together the world’s leading authorities on social, scientific-technological, educational, and humanitarian innovation, marking the first program of its kind in the region.

The Organized Committee of the Aurora International Prize has chosen Yazidi activist and Yazidi survivor, winner of the Zakharov Prize for Free Thought as Goodwill Ambassador of the Aurora Forum as well as more than 100 prominent figures including businessmen, civil society activists and the academicians who work voluntarily in the humanitarian field. This group is comprised of three other Yazidi figures, the civil activist Eido Baba Sheikh, Pir Dima from Yazidi House in Georgia and the Yazidi writer Hasso Hurmi.

Lamiya a young Yazidi girl is fighting for social justice, Aurora Forum Goodwill Ambassador Lamya Haji Bashar is public advocate for Yazidi community in Iraq, a religious minority that has been subject of a genocidal campaign by IS militants.

The final list of the Aurora Award for the Human Renaissance “Aurora Prize Humanitarian” of 2019, the world’s largest human rights prize has recognized Yazidi activist Mirza Denny and dedicated his whole life to saving the victims of the Iraq war, evacuating women and children from territories controlled by ISIS along with Yemeni woman Hudda Sarary and the Nigerian Boker Mustafa were selected among more than 700 candidates around the world.
