Unemployed residents of Georgia will receive compensation from January 2021

As part of the first package of anti-crisis assistance, the state has already helped about 125 thousand citizens of the country, transferring them 1.2 thousand lari within six months.

The Georgian government will start crediting compensation in the amount of 200 lari to residents who lost their jobs during the coronavirus pandemic from January 2021, Acting Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani said .

The Georgian government has developed another anti-crisis package, under which it will provide all possible assistance to residents and businesses in the extremely difficult epidemiological situation in the country.

Persons who have lost their jobs will receive monetary assistance in the amount of 1.2 thousand lari – 200 lari each for six months. The estimated number of beneficiaries is 125 thousand people. The budget is 150 million lari ($45 million).

As part of the first package of Anti-crisis assistance, the state has already helped about 125 thousand citizens of the country, transferring them 1.2 thousand lari within six months.

"We promised our population and businesses that this will continue from January. Therefore, the collection of information, as well as relevant transfers and transactions, will begin in January, " Machavariani said.

In addition, according to the decision of the state, persons left without work for the period of covid restrictions from November 28 to December 24 can receive a one-time compensation in the amount of GEL 300 by filling out an application on the website of the Revenue Service.

"At the moment, 50 thousand applications have already been registered. We believe that the number will increase to 100 thousand people. The payment of the compensation package will begin and end before the end of this year, " Machavariani said.

This assistance from the state can be used by individual entrepreneurs, individuals with the status of small businesses, individuals who pay a fixed tax, as well as persons with the status of micro-businesses who were forced to stop their activities due to restrictions.

Also, a one-time compensation of 300 lari is provided to self-employed persons working at the facility closed due to restrictions and registered as a taxpayer.
