Today, the European Union allocated a grant of 60 million euros (approximately 240 million lari) to Georgia to overcome the crisis as a result of COVID-19. These funds are intended to support the implementation of the anti-crisis economic plan of the government of Georgia, - the information is distributed by the EU delegation to Georgia.

"The European Union continues to strongly support Georgia during the pandemic. The grant of 240 million lari is part of a grant of 1.5 billion lari mobilized by the European Union and the European group this spring, which aims to support the government of Georgia in the fight against the pandemic, as well as to help the citizens of Georgia to meet the challenges faced by many people," says EU Ambassador to Georgia Karl Hartzel.

"These funds are the first tranche of the 75 million euros (approximately 300 million lari) provided for by the Agreement on Georgia's resistance to COVID-19, and through which the European Union will help Georgia implement its anti-crisis economic plan. The plan includes measures aimed at reducing the negative consequences caused by the loss of sources of income, promoting the preservation of jobs, supporting businesses and strengthening the health system.

The remaining funds will be allocated based on an assessment of measures taken by the government, which relate to providing social assistance to vulnerable families, supporting businesses in maintaining jobs and increasing the number of beds in the intensive care unit. This tranche was preceded by a loan of 100 million euros (approximately 400 million lari) for macro-financial assistance, which was implemented on November 25 this year. Both tranches are part of a total aid package of 1.5 billion lari, which also provides support for the health system, social sphere and economic recovery of Georgia," the EU delegation to Georgia said in a statement.
