In a joint statement on Georgia, the foreign ministries of Germany and France stated that "the creation of strong institutions and the proper functioning of pluralism are the necessary foundations of a strong democracy."

According to them, although observers from the OSCE Office for democratic institutions and human rights (OSCE/ODIHR) and local civil society pointed out some shortcomings in the electoral process, "all political forces in Georgia agree that further electoral and judicial reforms should remain a priority issue on the political agenda."

"The Parliament is a suitable place for such a discussion, as the parliamentary process will strengthen both the achieved result and its implementation, and, ultimately, confidence in the state institutions of Georgia," the foreign ministries of the two countries said.

"France and Germany are ready, as partners, to support Georgia on the path of democracy it has chosen, "the statement reads, according to which" at a time when Georgia is facing a number of regional challenges, it is all the more important to preserve the unity of the country."

The ministries expressed their support for the EU and US ambassadors, who are facilitating negotiations between the ruling and opposition parties after the elections.

"The purpose of their assistance to all political parties in Georgia was to implement specific reforms to strengthen Georgia's democratic institutions," the statement reads.

The statement also refers to the recently formed program for creating a single socio-economic space between Moscow and occupied Abkhazia. "We once again Express our strong support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders. We once again call on all parties, including Russia, to fully implement the agreement signed on August 12, 2008 with the mediation of the European Union, and to achieve concrete results in the framework of the Geneva international negotiations, " the joint statement reads.
