Yazda board member and Sweden branch director participates in a roundtable discussion at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs

Yazda board member and Sweden director, Delkhwaz Haciy, was invited to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Sweden for a roundtable discussion on how to strengthen freedom of religion and belief and how to stop religious and ethnic persecution around the world.

The meeting was co-hosted by Annika Ben David, Ambassador at large for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, Dr. Joachim Bergström, Ambassador to the OIC and special envoy for intercultural and interreligious dialogue, and Peter Weiderud, a special envoy for religion in conflict and peace building.The meeting included representatives from religious communities, parliament members, public officials, CSOs including Human Rights Watch and A Demand for Action.

Haciy expressed her gratitude to the Ministry for inviting her, as a representative of Yazda and Yazidis in Sweden, to the important gathering.Haciy emphasized that Yazidi are still living in an emergency condition which require some kind of resolution prior inter-religious dialogues can take place.She also briefed the attendees about the urgent needs for Yazidi and other minorities in Iraq. Several suggestions were presented on how Sweden can take part to support; assist in finding and rescuing thousands of Yazidis who are still missing, send aid directly to organizations in place, recognize the Yazidi genocide, find a solution to stop deporting asylum seekers in Sweden and try them against genocide.

Yazda and Yazidis in Sweden welcome the Swedish government efforts for taking steps in past months to host an International Conference, by Mikael Damberg, Swedish Minister for Home Affairs, initiating the establishment of international ISIS tribunal, organize an International Conference, by the Minister of Foreign affairs on Genocide prevention, allocating money for the rebuilding of destroyed areas in Iraq and Swedish prosecutors investigating ISIS crimes. Yazda hopes that Sweden continues its support for Yazidis and other minorities in Iraq.
