Tbilisi's budget has increased: what will millions go for

The mayor's office will keep all its social programs, including the program of free canteens for those in need and assistance in treatment.

Sakrebulo (city Council) of Tbilisi approved amendments to the capital's budget for 2020, according to which the capital's budget allocations increased by 217 million lari.

According to the project, the capital's budget allocations are set at more than 1 billion 239 million lari, of which more than 980 million lari is the money of Tbilisi itself.

The increase in the budget of Tbilisi is due to the agreement signed between the city hall of Tbilisi and the European Bank for reconstruction and development (EBRD) , according to which the Bank will allocate 80 million euros for the development of the transport system of Tbilisi.

Of the 80 million euros, 65 million is earmarked directly for the purchase of new environmentally friendly buses, and 15 million euros for the construction of the fleet. Today, 600-650 buses run through Tbilisi. Of these, 143 are new MAN buses that are more environmentally friendly and adapted for people with disabilities.

On a daily basis, Tbilisi buses cover a total of 109.5 thousand kilometers, stopping at more than 1.8 thousand stops.

At the same time, the mayor's office will keep all its social programs, including the program of free canteens for the needy, assistance in treatment, a day center for lonely elderly people, support for a homeless shelter and other programs.
