APM Terminals Poti, which owns the port of Poti, has officially resumed the process of obtaining a permit for the construction of a deep-water, multi-purpose Marina, the company said in a statement.

The company is ready to expand the sea port in Poti so that Georgia will have a modern logistics gate that will serve ships of the Panamax type.

"APM Terminals Poti" applied to the Agency for technical and construction supervision on February 11, 2020 to obtain a land use permit for the construction of a new deep-water port in Poti," the company said in a statement. This is the first stage of the three-step procedure for obtaining a construction permit.

The extension of the port of Poti is the plan for two years

APM Terminals Poti plans to complete the entire deepwater Marina construction project in 24-30 months.

The project should consist of two phases. The first involves the construction of a breakwater with a length of 1.7 meters and a multifunctional device berth length of 400 meters and a depth of 13.5 meters, which will allow the port to take a vessel up to 9 thousand TEU and enable the handling of bulk and other cargoes in addition with the volume of 150 thousand TEU.

The second phase involves the construction of a 300-meter-long container berth, where three berthing cranes will be located, which will make it possible to increase the annual cargo capacity to 1 million TEU.

The company plans to operate with dry cargo. These are metals from all over the region, fertilizers, and grains from Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan.

The company's management hopes that the new application will be approved.

The Director notes that if the permit is obtained, the company will be able to start foreign direct investment in the amount of $ 250 million.

"This will make a significant contribution to the development of the Georgian economy and increase the capacity of the existing transport corridor," Christensen said.
