Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili will make a speech at the PACE winter session on January 28, which is held in Strasbourg on January 27-31. In his speech, President Zurabishvili will speak about current events in Georgia and will touch upon the serious human rights situation in the occupied territories of Georgia.

At the meeting of the Assembly, Georgian foreign Minister David Zalkaliani will also act as Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, where he will talk about the priorities of Georgia's chairmanship in the organization.

According to Zalkaliani, he will have the opportunity to talk about the occupied regions "from a national position". "However, I am limited by the Charter of this organization, as the chair country — to cover the situation in the occupied territories more widely," he said.

Zalkaliani also noted that in his speech tomorrow, it is the President who will speak about the situation in the occupied regions "from a national position", including the problems associated with the closure of crossing points in the Akhalgori municipality.

Georgia became Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on November 27 last year. The country replaced France as President and will serve for six months. Among the priorities of the Georgian presidency are human rights and environmental protection, civic engagement in decision-making, child-oriented justice, and strengthening democracy through the involvement of education, culture, and youth.
