Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air is actively working to increase the frequency of flights from Georgia and plans to open regular direct flights to new destinations.

This became known after the meeting of the airline's CEO József Váradi and the head of the Ministry of Economy of Georgia Levan Davitashvili in Tbilisi.

It was noted that this year it was exactly ten years since Wizz Air carried out its first flight to Georgia. Currently, the airline considers Georgia to be its priority market.

Davitashvili, in turn, pointed out that an important task for the Georgian government is to increase direct flights with EU countries.

The parties also talked about the current situation in the Georgian civil aviation market as a whole, the process of its recovery after the coronavirus pandemic and the impact on the tourism industry.

Wizz Air is the leader of the Georgian aviation market in terms of the number of passengers transported. The airline, whose two planes are based at the Kutaisi International Airport, has transported more than 250 thousand people on flights to and from Georgia in just six months of 2022.
