Starting today, the requirement of mandatory wearing of masks in open spaces is abolished in Georgia.
At the same time, wearing masks is still mandatory indoors and on public transport.
After the authorities decided last year to forgive citizens for fines imposed for violations of the mask regime, the patrol police stopped issuing fines for refusing to wear a mask on the streets.
However, after the "omicron" strain began to spread actively in Georgia since the beginning of the year, the percentage of wearing masks on the streets has increased markedly. Recently, the percentage of those who use masks on the street has decreased significantly again - this is due to the improvement of the epidemiological situation.
According to the decision of the Georgian authorities, other covid restrictions will also be lifted from March 28:
- quantitative restriction on visits to catering facilities, sports, cultural and other public events,
- the obligation of self-isolation for Georgian citizens who enter the country without a PCR test. Previously, unvaccinated citizens of Georgia were sent to five-day self-isolation if they entered without a PCR test.
- the remote mode of work for employees of companies who worked not from offices is canceled.
In April, the government will continue to pay monetary incentives to unvaccinated citizens who decide to get vaccinated against coronavirus.
A one-time surcharge of 200 lari will be automatically issued to all citizens over the age of 50 who will be vaccinated against coronavirus. In addition, a surcharge of 100 lari will be given to persons over 50 years old who decide to make a "booster dose" of vactga.
The epidemiological situation in Georgia has been improving rapidly since mid-February. In recent days, the daily increase in people infected with coronavirus on average does not exceed 650 cases, whereas at the peak of the sixth wave of coronavirus, on January 31, there were more than 26 thousand.
