Through the new portal, users can generate data on foreign direct investment by country-sector or sector-country.

A special portal has been created to visualize and disseminate data on foreign direct investment in Georgia, the National Statistics Service of Georgia "Sakstat" reports.

The new Foreign Direct Investment Portal (FDI) is one of the most important interactive platforms for data dissemination, which offers users indicators related to investments in different contexts.

Through the new portal, users have the opportunity, if desired and necessary, to generate data on foreign direct investment by country-sectors or country-sectors, compare two reporting periods of FDI by major countries, sectors and components, etc.

The portal has an interactive map of the world, which presents data on the countries of Georgia's direct investors, which is one of the best tools for analyzing foreign direct investment. Here are the classifications used in data accounting, the methodology for calculating indicators and metadata.

The new product is available on the website of "Sakstat" in Georgian and English. At the same time, data on it will be updated quarterly, in parallel with the dissemination of data on foreign direct investment.

Against the background of the coronavirus pandemic, the volume of foreign direct investment in Georgia in 2020 decreased by 57.2% compared to 2019 and amounted to 572 million dollars. This is a big loss for the country. Last year, the volume of investments increased slightly, by only 3.2% compared to January-September 2020 and amounted to $ 728.4 million.

To remedy the situation, the authorities intend to change the passive, in their opinion, policy. In 2022, the Ministry of Economy plans to change its approach to a more aggressive one and not wait for investors to become interested in Georgia themselves. The agency plans a proactive approach, which involves searching for investors in different countries.
