The coronavirus outbreak has dealt a serious blow to the Georgian economy - foreign trade turnover for the first four months of 2020 decreased by 11.8% compared to the same period in 2019 and amounted to about 3.5 billion dollars.

In January-April, Georgian products were exported for more than one billion dollars - 11.9% less compared to the same period in 2019, according to the materials of the national statistics service of the country "Sakstat".

Imports since the beginning of 2020 amounted to about 2.5 billion dollars, which is 11.8% less than in January-April 2019.

The negative trade balance of Georgia for this period amounted to about 1.5 billion dollars, which is 42.2% of the total foreign trade turnover.

The largest trading partners of Georgia since the beginning of 2020 are Turkey, Russia and Azerbaijan - in General, the turnover with these countries in January-April this year amounted to more than 1.2 billion dollars, which is 35.6% of the total trade turnover.

The top ten trading partners of Georgia also include: China – more than 346.1 million dollars, Ukraine-more than 174 million dollars, the United States-more than 162.7 million dollars, Armenia-about 161.4 million dollars, Bulgaria-more than 145.5 million dollars, Germany-about 140 million dollars, Italy-about 65.8 million dollars.

The coronavirus outbreak has already dealt a serious blow to the country's economy – in April this year, Georgia's foreign trade turnover fell by 35.4%, including exports - by 27.9%, and imports - by 38.5%.

According to the Georgian investment company Galt&Taggart, a drop in exports due to restrictions in world trade due to the coronavirus pandemic could cause damage to the economy in the amount of 200 million to one billion dollars, depending on the scenario.
