Foreigners who decide to spend their holidays in Georgia this summer must pass a coronavirus test 72 hours before arrival.

The beginning of receiving international tourists does not mean opening borders, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said.

Georgia intends to open the domestic tourist season on June 15, and the international one – from July 1.

"When we say that Georgia will be the first country to accept tourists, it does not mean that we will open the borders and people will enter the country without control. No, we're talking about clean corridors," said Gakharia.

In addition, he noted that we are talking only about specific groups of tourists who will only rest in certain hotels, use certain transport and services. At the same time, vacationers must pass a test for coronavirus no later than 72 hours before arrival in the country.

"Otherwise, we'll jeopardize their reputation," said Gakharia.

He stressed that Georgia will position itself as a safe country for tourism, so the authorities must ensure that foreigners do not catch COVID-19 while traveling to Georgia.
