The Asian Bank has allocated more than 90 million euros to Georgia to fight coronavirus

The Asian infrastructure investment Bank (AIIB) has allocated almost 91.4 million euros to Georgia to fight COVID-19, according to the Ministry of Finance.

Georgia and the AIIB signed a loan agreement for the rapid response project against COVID-19. the Goal is to prevent, detect, respond to threats caused by the pandemic, and strengthen the national health system.

The agreement with the AIIB is part of the financial support provided to Georgia by partner international donor organizations in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and further rehabilitation of the country's economy.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the funds will be used to support the health sector, strengthen the epidemiological capabilities of public health Centers, increase General testing capabilities, expand the availability of critical medical devices and equipment, and provide social and financial support to families and individuals directly or indirectly affected by COVID-19, through a targeted social assistance program and temporary financial assistance.

The project will be implemented by the Ministry of health of Georgia.

The Agency notes that the financial resources allocated to the AIIB are part of the loan agreement "rapid response Project against COVID-19" issued by Georgia and the world Bank on may 1, according to which the world Bank allocated the country $ 80 million.

The international monetary Fund has agreed to extend the "extended financing Mechanism" Program, which means allocating $ 447 million to Georgia until the end of 2020. In addition, a number of international donors will allocate $ 1.5 billion to Georgia by the end of 2020.
