The history and partnership of our States, relations and friendship of our peoples are much more important than the appointment of a criminal convict to a political post, - this is how Tbilisi mayor Kakha Kaladze responded to the possible appointment of Mikhail Saakashvili as Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine on the 112 Ukraine TV channel.
"I am sure that Ukraine, as our friend and a country that is our strategic partner, will not question the existing friendly and partnership relations and will not appoint a criminal convict to the post of Deputy Prime Minister. You probably know that Saakashvili has already been sentenced in two cases and in all three instances, including in Strasbourg... I Think that the history and partnership of our States, relations and friendship of our peoples are much more important than the appointment to political office of a criminal convict," Kaladze said.
When asked who in the power structures of Ukraine needs Saakashvili and why, Kaladze replied that " neither Georgia and the Georgian people, nor Ukraine and the Ukrainian people need an adventurer and despot like Saakashvili."
According to Kaladze, Saakashvili wants absolute power and will do literally anything to get it.
"If Ukraine allows him to be appointed to any position, high or low, it does not matter, in the end everything will end very badly. Such is his character, he is such a man. This is what worries me, as one of the fans of your country and your people, " Kaladze said.
According to the mayor of Tbilisi, Saakashvili is an adventurer who thinks only about his own person, has no principle and does not put the interests of the state in anything.
"An important factor is that the possible appointment of Saakashvili as Deputy Prime Minister, of course, will harm the relations and strategic partnership that exists between our countries. And then Saakashvili personally will make sure that the Ukrainian people, Ukraine, have as many problems as possible. Personally, I believe that for both Georgia and Ukraine, Saakashvili is yesterday. We all remember. We must remember the lessons of the past and move only forward, not backward, " Kaladze said.
